Paragraphs SUMMARIZING projects for marin county parks:
Aramburu Project:
This project was created in to help the 17 acre island preserve. They wanted to stop the erosion, help rare birds with a place to nest, and stop the spread of invasive species. They started planning and raising money in 2007 and completed the project in 2012. In 2013 and early 2014 the Audubon Center and the sanctuaries restoration team planted over 36,000 native salt marsh and grassland plants on Aramburu. There were problems with these new plants though as there was severe drought and Canadian geese were eating all the newly planted plants. The next year they planted twice as many plants and and put in irrigation systems and put goose cages around the newly planted plants. They plan to keep planting new plants and help native rare birds find a new nesting home to help them thrive.
Castro Park Playground:
This playground used to be a little league baseball field until it wasn't being used anymore. Now they have converted the field into a childrens playground. In 2003 they completed the project but now 10 years later they need to make some improvements to it. They have been having meetings to discuss the future of the park but have not made any progress since they don't know how they will get the money to do anything with the park.
Integrated Pest Management:
They are trying to get public and private residences and companies to stop using pest control chemicals that will hurt the environment. They also went around to 126 of 147 parks around Marin County to eradicate invasive species like French Broom, Scotch Broom, Thistles, and Fennel.
McNears Master Plan:
This is a plan to restore the basic facilities like roads and bathrooms at the McNears Beach Park in San Rafael. They are still in the planning stages of this project but have ideas to add better electrical, phone lines, Irrigation systems, and storm drains to the park.
Stafford Lake Bike Park:
This is a plan to allow more riders and of different skill levels to use the bike park. This bike park is the first of its kind in the North Bay. This project raised over $700,000 in a span of a couple years for the building and maintaining of the park.
