Overview:
For this project my group of Arno, Jacob, and Christian made a band. In our band we had a pan flute (played by me), a diddley bow (played by Arno), and chimes (played by Jacob). We had to create these instruments from scratch, including how long we had to make each part of the instrument. The objective was to be able to play seven notes A-G.
My instrument, the pan flute, was made out of bamboo. I chose bamboo because the center is already hollowed out and there are natural "digits" so you can just cut one side to the length that you need from the end of the digit.

REFLECTION:
This has been one of my favorite experiences in this class. At first I didn't get what was going on at all but Mr. Williams helped me with it and I made my own instrument. I never thought that I could make an instrument. but I did it and it sounded perfect. The other half of the project was to make a song and play it at a mini concert. About two days before the concert we found out that we would be missing half our group so we didn't play a song, but we demonstrated the instruments to the crowd and they loved the clarity and loudness of the pan flute. I honestly love building things, but when I got this assignment I was a bit sceptical about it. I never thought about making an instrument! But after a few days into the project I realized that this was going to be a super fun project where you can build and learn the physics about it. In the end I was really happy with the groups instruments and happy with the performance we made |
